The essential rapport is the one between car weight and engine power. Small cylinder capacity does not automatically ensure excellent gas mileage, if the car is too heavy, the engine having to strive to carry along the entire weight. The aerodynamic structure and design of the car itself also influences the fuel consumption if the actual shape of the car does not help it to glide along the highway. Equally important is the power of transmission of the gear box - even if the engine and weight are balanced, poor motion transmission will increase fuel consumption. Before comparing car models, make sure you have chosen as similar models as possible. Car class is not the perfect standard to go by.
