Modem Leased Line a Thing of the Present

July 10th, 2009 | by admin |

My IT department just showed me a modem, but it was no antique. It was a baseband modem that they use on our modem leased line. This is a point to multipoint industrial modem that has a 10 mile operation distance running parallel to our T1 leased line. It’s basically being used to handle our incoming data calls, though we don’t exactly use fax machines any more. It’s hooked up to our LAN and prints out received files on one of our networked printers. They seem to think there’s a better solution than this, but are happy with the set up they have and don’t feel the need to promote the architecture upgrade and have a significant expenditure.
