License plate search: your options

Very simply, after paying any necessary fees, you will be asked for the vehicle information. In most cases you will have the option of either inputting the license plate number or, if you have it, the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). In some cases — for example if you are researching the history on a used car, the VIN will be available to you. In other cases, however, the only thing that you will have to go on is the license plate number.
